Write a Response to Literature essay explaining the THEME of the poem or song you have chosen.  Use textual evidence from your selection to prove your ideas.  Your essay should be at least five paragraphs long, and include an introduction, body, and conclusion. 

 

Rough Draft Writing in class: April 3

Revising/Editing: April 4

 

Instead of turning in your essay on a piece of paper, you will be constructing a piece of art that includes all five paragraphs of your essay.  Your art project must symbolize your poem’s theme. 

 

Your project MUST:

 

1.  Include the five paragraphs of your Response to Literature Essay

2.  Include a copy of your poem with at least FIVE of the following poetic devices labeled:

Rhythm                    Rhyme                     Alliteration               Onomatopoeia        

Simile                      Metaphor                 Idiom                       Personification

 

3.  Symbolize your poem’s theme-- You can choose to present your essay in the shape of a HEART if you are writing about a love poem, or in the shape of a FLOWER if you are analyzing a poem about spring

 

4.  Include a short biographical paragraph about your poem’s AUTHOR—Tell me the name of the poet/songwriter, when/where he/she lived, and at least two interesting facts about his/her life.  This paragraph is SEPARATE from your response to literature essay!
