The Outsiders Theme Essay

Write a Response to Literature essay explaining the THEME of The Outsiders.  Use the textual evidence you've collected in class to prove your ideas.  Remember the dance we've learned, "Pickin' Out Words," so that you can PICK out evidence, put it in QUOTATION MARKS, and then include PARENTHESES.

Rough Draft Due: 12/3/12 (English 8); 12/7/12 (English 8A)
HERE is Mrs. Christopher's awesome Response to Literature PowerPoint from last year, which will help you construct a great essay.

Final Draft Due: 12/7/12 (English 8), TBA (English 8A)
Reminders . . .
If you TYPE your essay, here's how I'd like it formatted:
1.  1 inch margins
2.  Times, Times New Roman, Arial, or Helvetica
3.  Creative title
4.  Double space

If you HANDWRITE your essay, here's what I'd like:
1.  Stay within the margins on your lined paper
2.  Use your best handwriting . . . cursive or print; just make it legible
3.  Creative title
4.  Double space
5.  You CAN use both sides of the paper :)

HERE is the rubric!

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
